Valmiki Ramayana Book Set

One of the two great Indian epic books (the other being Mahabharata), is till date considered the perfect mythology story for imbibing correct values.

Ramayana is the story of Rama, prince of Ayodhya and the seventh incarnation of lord Vishnu. Known as marayada purushottam or the perfect man, Rama embodied all that made for a righteous king. The original script of Ramayana, 480,002 words-long, is believed to have been composed by the sage Valmiki.

VALMIKI RAMAYANA BOOK

Amar Chitra Katha brings you Valmiki’s Ramayana book– the Box Set, containing 960 pages (6 volumes) of colour and visual action in the graphic format.

The story of Rama’s childhood, his exile, Sita’s abduction, Hanuman’s devotion, and Ravana’s death, form a heroic tale, which teaches numerous values.

Valmikis Ramayana book illustrative and easy-to-read comic book set helps children not only learn about duty and honour, good and evil, love and loss, jealousy and destructive ambitions, it also helps develop their imagination and vocabulary.

Bala Kand

The first volume of the Ramayana set narrates the story of Rama’s childhood. From King Dasharatha’s penance for a child to Rama’s schooling under the great rishi Vishwamitra, this book highlights the many adventures of the young princes Rama and Lakshmana. At the same time, King Janaka promises to marry his daughter, Sita, to the most powerful man in the land.

Ayodhya Kand

The second installment in Valmiki’s Ramayana encapsulates the journey of Rama’s exile from Ayodhya. When King Dasharatha announcess Rama’s ascension to the throne, his youngest wife, Kaikeyi, demands Rama’s exile and the installation of her son, Bharata, instead. Bound by a promise, Dasharatha gives in as despair looms over the kingdom of Ayodhya.

Aranya Kand

The Ramayana witnesses interesting encounters in its third book, as Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana wander through the Dandaka forest during their 14 years of exile. The trio meets various demons and ogres on their journey, most of whom are ill-fated and cursed. Only after their encounter with the mighty Rama do they find liberation. However, they also meet some characters who set the stage for the epic war that unfolds later, such the king of Lanka and great devotee of lord Shiva, Ravana and his sister, Shurpanakha.

Kishkindha Kand

The fourth book in Valmiki’s Ramayana traces the search for Sita. Rama and Lakshmana meet the exiled vanara king, Sugriva, and his trusted friend and general, Hanuman. Rama helps Sugriva win his kingdom back, who, in return, promises Rama to track down Sita with the help of his vanara soldiers.

Sundara Kand

This action-packed chapter in the Ramayana describes Hanuman’s flight to Lanka in search of Sita. He finds Sita by herself in the Ashoka Vana waiting for her husband to come and rescue her. Overwhelmed with grief and anger at his queen’s plight, he wreaks havoc in the kingdom of Lanka, leaving it behind in a blazing inferno.

Yuddha Kand

Hanuman returns with news of Sita and urges Rama to rescue her at the earliest. Rama’s army of vanaras cross the mighty ocean and head towards Lanka where Ravana’s army is waiting for them. The last volumes of Valmiki’s Ramayana are packed with dramatic action set pieces describing every detail of this ultimate battle between good and evil and its aftermath.

All Indian names and terms are explained in glossaries at the end of each volume.
