African basil is native to tropical Africa, India and South East Asia. It has been extensively introduced as an aromatic and medicinal herb. In India, it generally grows in moist and dry deciduous forests, plains and valleys. It is such a strong plant that till date there is no information about pests and/or diseases affecting African basil. In India, it is widely used in religious ceremonies and rituals. The whole plant and the essential oil have many applications in traditional medicine, especially in Africa and India. Preparations from the whole plant are used as stomachic (promoting the appetite or assisting digestion) and in treating sunstroke, headache and influenza. The seeds have laxative properties and the essential oil is used to treat fever, inflammations of the throat, ears or eyes, stomach pain, diarrhea and skin diseases. African basil honey is used for bronchitis, malaria, fever, asthma, urogenital disorders, vomiting, earache, diabetes, and is anti-bacterial, prevents tuberculosis, leucoderma, etc. This honey is from the nectar majorly of wild African Basil flowers and the indigenous flora growing in Madhya Pradesh. Like the plant, it strengthens your respiratory system, and is especially effective in supporting the heart, blood vessels, liver and lungs. It cures sinus, throat pain and cold. It reduces cholesterol levels in the body. It also keeps the kidney healthy and free from toxins. Unlike normal honey, wild forest honey is made from more than just flower nectar. Trees sap is consumed by a minute bug called aphids. They then secrete what’s leftover back onto the tree. That sugary secretion is called honeydew. The bees gather it along with the flower nectar to make honey. Forest honeys have another level of nutrition, beyond what flower honey provides. This is partly why they are so sought after despite their relatively high cost. All forest honeys have very high levels of antioxidants, probiotics, vitamins and minerals. They also have greater power against bacteria, viruses and fungi than flower honey.
Note: "Organic Monkey procures pure raw honey directly from tribals and passionate beekeepers all over India. It is unadulterated, unprocessed, unblended, not microfiltered or infused with anything. Pure raw honey never stays the same. As it ages, its color, consistency and/or taste profile may change, crystallization may occur when the natural glucose settles on beneficial microparticles in the honey."
