Shami is a species of flowering tree in the pea family, Fabaceae. It is the state tree of Rajasthan (where it is known as Khejri) and Telangana (where it is known as Jammi) in India. The Tree of Life in Bahrain is a 9.75 meters (32 feet) high shami tree that is over 400 years old. This tree is highly revered among Hindus and worshipped as part of Dussehra festival. It takes importance during the tenth day of Dasara Festival when it is worshiped in various parts of India. It is also known as “Golden tree” or “Wonder tree” of the desert. The importance of the medicinal value of this tree has been highlighted in ancient Ayurvedic (medical) literature. Honey produced from shami has highest quality with long and abundant flowering. It is the lifeline of the desert. It works like an antidiabetic agent. Shami is used for treatment of asthma, bronchitis, dysentery, leucoderma, leprosy, muscle tremors, piles, and wandering of mind. Leaf smoke is used to cure eye infection. Its dry pods help in preventing protein calorie malnutrition and iron calcium deficiency in blood. The amazing part about its honey is it has most of the beneficial properties from the plant.
Note: "Organic Monkey procures pure raw honey directly from tribals and passionate beekeepers all over India. It is unadulterated, unprocessed, unblended, not microfiltered or infused with anything. Pure raw honey never stays the same. As it ages, its color, consistency and/or taste profile may change, crystallization may occur when the natural glucose settles on beneficial microparticles in the honey."
